Meet PaTH: Soledad Fernandez
Get to know the Principal Investigator of another new PaTH site—Soledad Fernandez, PhD.
Question: What is your role in PaTH and what does it entail?
Soledad Fernandez: I am the OSU-site PI for PaTH. In this role I am responsible for all OSU network activities, engage investigators in the several different network projects, monitor finances and budget allocation.
Q: Did you always want to work in medicine? If not, what did you originally want to do?
SF: I started my career in Agronomy (in Uruguay), and I got interested in Animal Science and Genetics. After receiving my diploma in Agronomy, I decided to pursue graduate studies and came to the US to get a PhD in Animal Breeding and Statistics from Iowa State University. Right after I started my professional career at Ohio State University (OSU), I made the transition to Biostatistics and the Biomedical Sciences.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies?
SF: I spend a lot of my time watching soccer games (my kids). I also love to work in my yard, when there are no soccer games.
Q: What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
SF: That I grew up in a farm in Uruguay.
Q: What is your favorite book/movie/TV show/band/food?
SF: I don’t have a favorite book, my favorite book is the book that I am reading at any particular moment. One that I recently read and really enjoyed was “Becoming Michelle Obama.” Favorite movies and shows also change with time. Lately, a movie/show that I really liked is “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” . My favorite food is roasted or grilled beef.
